Opening a can of pineapple or cutting open a fresh one has great health benefits. They contain a large portion of vitamin C and keep bones strong and help promote good digestion. Your body needs manganese for your bones. The body uses it to produce collagen a tough connective tissue to make bones strong. Drinking pineapple juice or eating it is a great source of manganese.

A cup of pineapple chunks or juice is what you need to add to your healthy diet. Pineapple for centuries has shown to ease indigestion. When it is fresh it contains bromelain an enzyme that breaks down protein which is important id you have low levels stomach acid. They are an excellent source of vitamin C especially when you drink a cup of fresh juice. It reduces levels of histamine which causes cold systems and running noses. You should try and eat or drink pineapple several times a week.

To get the best results from it make sure to buy it fresh. Canned does not have the same healing properties as the fresh pineapple. You can look for the "Gold pineapple" from Costa Rica it is sweet and it has more then four time the vitamin C. When you are in the kitchen you need to peal away the sharp spiny skin. You should only buy fresh fruit that does not have any bruised or soft spots.

The stem should have a sweet aromatic fragrance and not smell fermented. You should look for freshness, the leaves should be crisp and deep green without brown tips. When you cut the top off and bottom place it in a shallow dish. Then cut and trim out the fresh pineapple slices and discard the tough core. You can also cut it into chunks and place it into a blender with many kinds of different fruits to make a great fruit smoothie.
